Pregnancy Tests

If you think you may be pregnant, it can be a lot to process. You might be feeling scared, confused, or simply overwhelmed. At PRC we know how important it is to have results you can trust. We offer free and confidential pregnancy testing to any woman who thinks she may be facing a pregnancy.

Home pregnancy tests continue to improve in their accuracy as technology advances, but several variables may affect your results. For a test to give you an accurate result, it must be taken correctly and at the right time. Tests that are administered incorrectly have a much higher likelihood of providing a false result. At PRC, we will repeat a pregnancy test for no charge.

When you come to PRC you will be treated with respect and a warm greeting. You will then meet with a client advocate in a private setting. Your pregnancy appointment will last for about an hour.  During this time, your advocate will get to know you and listen to your story. Then, with your advocate’s instruction, you will do a self-administered pregnancy test that consists of you giving a sample of urine.  A timer will be set for 3 minutes; then together you and your advocate will look at the test results.

Depending on the results of your test, your advocate will help you process and explore all of your options.

Ultrasounds

If your pregnancy test comes back positive and you are more than an estimated six weeks pregnant, we can provide you with a limited ultrasound exam.

An ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to reveal the contents of your uterus, determine fetal heartbeat and see how many weeks along you are in your pregnancy. We provide limited obstetrical ultrasound to discover three things about your pregnancy:

  1. Fetus Viability -- During your ultrasound, your nurse will look for and measure the fetal heart rate and check to see that the pregnancy is progressing normally inside of your uterus. Once a heart rate is established, a pregnancy is generally considered to be viable.
  2. Location of the Pregnancy -- To safely carry a pregnancy to term, the pregnancy must be located in the uterus. If the pregnancy has implanted somewhere outside of the uterus, like in the fallopian tubes, there will not be enough room for the pregnancy to develop fully. If allowed to continue, the pregnancy could pose a threat to you.
  3. Age of the Fetus -- Depending on how far along the pregnancy is, your options may change. We estimate how far along the pregnancy is to give you more accurate information on the options available to you.

After an ultrasound, it is time to start considering all your options. Our nurses and client advocates are here to answer all of your questions about parenting, adoption, and abortion.

Options Advising

After an ultrasound, it is time for you to start considering all of your options. Our client advocates are here to answer all of your questions or those of your loved ones.  Our client advocate will speak with you about parenting, adoption, and abortion – focusing on accuracy and without judgement. If you choose to have the baby, we can help you throughout the pregnancy and after.  If adoption is your choice, we will help you find the right agency to work with.

STI Testing

If you are sexually active and have concerns, we provide limited testing for Chlamydia and Gonorrhea. During your appointment you will be asked to provide a urine sample that will be sent out to The Center for Disease Detection. PRC will receive your results within 48 hrs. It is our priority to ensure you are getting the healthcare you need when faced with an STI diagnosis.

If you are looking for full spectrum STI testing and treatment, please visit our Expanded Medical Services page for info to contact our contracted Medical Provider, Castle Rock Women's Health.

Childbirth and Prenatal Classes

Childbirth and Prenatal Preparation Class helps calm worries, answer questions, and prepares parents for labor, birth, and early parenthood.

The class is held three to four times a year. Classes meet four times for a total of 12 hours of instruction. It is the only childbirth class offered in Grand County.

There are many benefits to attending these classes. Most importantly, you will feel much more prepared as you move through the process of delivery.  In our time together, you will be exploring your options for a safe, satisfying and special birth experience.

During this class, we recognize that each family is unique. You will be able to bring with you any family member or friend that will be supporting during your childbirth.

A significant benefit is that valued friendships and future support systems are formed with other mothers-to-be in your class.

Breastfeeding Support

Joanne DeLorm RN, our volunteer Lactation Consultant, is available to help with any breastfeeding concerns you may have. She is happy to send you breastfeeding lessons, see you in the office with your baby or talk with you on the phone. Joanne is here to help you meet your breastfeeding goals through increased knowledge and experience.

During the free Childbirth Classes PRC offers, we discuss breastfeeding. It is also a chance to meet other Grand County Moms who will be breastfeeding which becomes a great future resource.

Sexuality Education

Human Sexuality Education is an instructional program that provides discussion opportunities among presenters and students in local high school health classes.

The first portion of the class focuses on good decision making skills and healthy relationships. Students are introduced to how and why they make the decisions they do, as well as the rewards and consequences of those choices.

The next level of the course includes more in-depth discussions about unhealthy lines in relationships, and how these lead to poor sexual choices. Topics discussed are emotional instability, broken relationships, sexually transmitted infections, and teen pregnancy.

Classes are provided in several ways to meet the client's specific needs: live, by zoom, by books, and by prerecorded instructions.

Love & Logic® Parenting Class

Love & Logic® Parenting class provides simple solutions and practical techniques to help train children of all ages. Topics include how to raise responsible children, have more fun parenting, and how to easily and immediately change the behavior of children.

The class uses the Love and Logic® philosophy of Jim Fay and Foster W. Cline, M.D. Love & Logic® was founded in 1977 and is endorsed and used by leading educators, parents, and professionals worldwide.

Classes are provided in several ways to meet the client's specific needs: live, by zoom, by books, and by prerecorded instructions.

Reproductive Loss Support

There is no right or wrong way to feel after a woman loses a baby through a miscarriage, stillbirth, infant death, adoption or abortion. Every woman’s experience is unique as is that of her loved ones. Relief, anger, sadness, confusion, and hope can all exist at one time. This may be overwhelming, but it is also normal. If a woman or man is looking for emotional support after their loss, no matter how long after, PRC will help them through a variety of means, one-on-one or group sessions. Giving a voice to your abortion experience can change how you view the decision that you made and give you courage to live in your freedom. We are here for you day or night.
